Daikon has long been a comfort food for me. Botanically it is known as
raphanus sativus. I remember eating it along with pickled onions and hot, steamed white rice with ocha. Here's the
wiki for the curious. Roots, by Alex Haley, brought a whole new generation into the search for one's ancestors. It intrigued me but not to the point of actually beginning such a daunting task. Having kids who have to make family trees for school assignments puts things in perspective quickly. What I remember is loosely based upon my own homework eons ago. My tree at the time never made it past great-grandparents, and today I'd be lucky to remember half of that information. Shameful indeed. No better time than the present to search for the past. And so, our journey begins.
